BREESE, Ill.—Designer Cordogan Clark and general contractor Poettker Construction joined personnel from Central School District #104 for a groundbreaking ceremony at Joseph Arthur Middle School to kick off some overall improvements to the campus. The updates entail 26,900 square feet of expansion in addition to 10,900 square feet of light renovation at the middle school.

Additions will include a competition-level gymnasium that will also serve as the campus’s storm shelter. Other new areas include a modern commercial kitchen as well as a wing of classrooms for grades 4 through 6. Renovations will be undertaken to the entrance lobby to help facilitate better walking traffic.

“This addition is greatly needed to accommodate our ever-growing student population and allow us to be competitive with our surrounding school communities,” Dr. Gabrielle Rodriguez, Superintendent of Central 104, said at the groundbreaking. “We are confident in Poettker Construction and Cordogan Clark’s ability to deliver a more safe, modern, and welcoming learning environment for our middle school students.”

“The Poettker Team is thrilled to collaborate with Central School District #104 to expand the district’s middle school educational and multi-purpose facilities,” said Jon Carroll, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer at Poettker. “We are excited to continue our partnership and deliver an enhanced learning environment for the district.”

The campus improvements are anticipated to be ready for the 2024-2015 school year.

ST. LOUIS—The Parkway School District of the greater St. Louis area has contracted Poettker Construction of Breese, Ill., to facilitate construction management work throughout the district thanks to moneys approved by voters in the recent Prop S bond. At $265 million, this represents the largest bond issue in the history of public education in the Show Me State.

Over the next half-decade, Prop S funds will be utilized to upgrade climate controls within some school buildings, bring in the latest educational learning tech, increase safety measures and redesign playgrounds at various schools throughout the Parkway district.

Preconstruction and design are already underway, with construction estimated to commence sometime in 2023.

“We are honored to partner with Parkway School District during the planning, design, and construction phases of this district-wide improvements program,” Ryan Poettker, president of Poettker, said in a recent statement. “We look forward to collaborating with the school district, community, design partners, and trade contractors to maximize Parkway’s return on investment to build strong schools and community.”

Poettker, founded in 1980, is working as the construction manager on seven K-12 projects throughout St. Louis. In addition to construction management, Poettker is a family-owned business that provides services in design/build and general contracting.

BREESE, Ill.—Poettker Construction Company, a second-generation family-owned construction company and one of the top 75 largest general contractors in the Midwest, recently announced the opening of its new, 40,000-square-foot headquarters, located at 400 S. Germantown Rd. in Breese. This new construction consolidates five separate facilities into a single, central building that is more than 30 percent larger than the previous workspaces.

“Our plan for this new headquarters was rooted in a two-fold purpose,” said Keith Poettker, president of Poettker Construction. “We wanted to celebrate the vision and craftsmanship of the Poettker team and demonstrate our skills and capabilities to our clients, as well as offer employees the best possible environment in which to grow and expand their career while ensuring work-life balance.”

Inspired by the traditional style of German bank barns, the new headquarters’ exterior façade complements the history and values of the Breese community while featuring materials and finishes that are prominent in Poettker’s diverse portfolio: structural steel framing, concrete, exposed glulam beams, masonry, metal wall panels, wood plank siding, and standing seam metal roofing. Visible from multiple elevations, the sharp pitch in the spine of the central roof is reminiscent of traditional barn roofs and serves as a core visual element that pulls the side structure together into a unified, organic whole.

Among the new headquarters’ prime features is an outdoor sanctuary incorporating a tranquil lake with a waterfall and two fountain features, beautiful landscaping and entertaining areas. The back of the building features a walk-out lower level with a covered gallery that echoes passages built on the sheltered side of German barns. The gallery leads to the 1/3-mile walking path, which allows employees to break from the traditional nine-to-five work environment and destress with nature.

Other amenities include:

An expansive lobby and guest lounge boasting 37-foot ceilings with sightlines to the exterior lake and natural elements.

Cubicles tailored toward a 21st century environment, including sit-to-stand workstations and open collaboration concepts.

Geothermal HVAC system, solar panel farm and LED lights to reduce energy consumption by 75 percent along with reducing the carbon footprint by 65 percent.

Health and wellness facilities available on site, including a 24/7 fitness center equipped with lockers and bathrooms, and a dedicated health wellness room.

In-house training room with real time conversation features that can accommodate 100 people.

The headquarters opening comes alongside recent success in the company including the opening of a Southeast regional office in Charlotte, N.C., as well as leadership promotions to accommodate strategic growth within the company.

St. Louis-based Oculus Inc. served as the architect and interior designer of record and Aviston, Ill.-based Netemeyer Engineering Associates Inc. served as civil engineer. Other design consultants included IMEG of St. Louis as structural engineer, BRiC Partnership of Belleville as the MEPFP coordinator and DTLS of St. Louis as the landscape architect.

Poettker Construction will host an open house of its new headquarters on Sunday, Nov. 10, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

OLNEY, Ill.—Poettker Construction, a second-generation family-owned construction company, has been selected by Richland County Community Unit School District #1 (RCCU#1) in Olney as the construction manager of the Richland County High School (RCHS) addition and renovation project.

“Our community here with the Richland County School District is very excited about the new campus additions and renovation that will bring a modern learning environment to our 700-plus high school students,” said Chris Simpson, assistant superintendent of Richland County School District. “We are proud of our district and look forward to working with Poettker to bring these upgrades to our campus.”

The RCHS project is the result of a process that lasted several months and included numerous engagement sessions to gather input from the community. The result was a high school renovation and addition project that focuses on three main priorities: safety and security; accessibility; and modern learning.

In addition to updating safety standards and implementing a new, singular main entrance, the $25.5M project includes a new theater, cafeteria, common areas and an auxiliary gymnasium. The project has an estimated completion date of December 2020.

“Poettker has always been committed to bettering the communities where we live and serve, and that’s especially true for education projects,” said Jon Carroll, VP Project Management for Poettker Construction. “We are honored to be chosen to help this community enhance and update its public-school facilities.”

RCCU#1 serves approximately 2,400 students in pre-K through grade 12. The mission of the school district is creating a partnership with families to ensure a safe and engaging learning environment that provides students with opportunities for academic success, career readiness, life-long learning, citizenship and global awareness.

The final work packages will be bidding in the month of July 2019, with early work already underway to complete demolition and site work while students are on summer break.

Established in 1980, Poettker Construction is a second-generation, family-owned and veteran-owned business specializing in construction management, design/build, general contracting and self-perform services.

The design firm for the project is BLDD Architects.
