Clark State College Receives $3 Million for Renovations

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—The next phase of renovations at Clark State College in Springfield is set to move forward.

More than $3 million has been earmarked from the state’s two-year capital construction budget. On the list for renovation is Rhodes Hall, in addition to maintenance at the college’s Applied Science Center (ASC).

To date, nearly $8 million has already been spent at Rhodes Halls and ASC to renovate the third floor of Rhodes, including classrooms, faculty offices, hallway improvements and restrooms.

This latest amount of $3 million will go toward renovating the second floor of Rhodes — primarily classrooms — as well as a replacement boiler and chiller at the ASC, which have not been replaced since the building was constructed in 1970.

It has been nearly 35 years since the second floor of Rhodes was renovated. ASC was last renovated in 1994. Both buildings require extensive work to update technology and the physical learning environment to current standards.

A general contractor or architect has not yet been announced.

On December 29, 2020, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed into law a budget that will fund hundreds of projects and initiatives across Ohio. This includes approximately $450 million for public colleges and universities.
