DENVER—Construction has begun on a Colorado State University campus in Denver that is aimed to enable the public to explore and interact with educational content around water, food and health.

A recent groundbreaking ceremony for the $138.8 million project had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With a completion date slated for 2022, the new campus, called Spur, will bring the expertise of the three CSU System campuses—CSU in Fort Collins, CSU Pueblo and CSU Global. The campus will host families and tourists, K-12 student field trips, conferences and meetings,

in addition to researchers in state-of-the-art labs, college students pursuing degrees in fields related to agriculture and sustainability, and local artists creating spaces in onsite studios.

“The space will convene research experts from around the world related to water, food, sustainability, and human and animal health,” said Jocelyn Hittle, director of Denver programing for the CSU System, in a statement.

“It will not only be a place, but also a network—a launching point for collaboration across disciplines and sectors aimed at addressing global changes.”

The first of the three buildings to be completed will be named Vida and will focus on animal and human health. It will show the second location of CSU’s Temple Grandin Equine Center, which provides equine-assisted activities and therapies to humans.

The center will also partner with the Dumb Friends League to offer a donor-subsidized clinic for companion animals while providing hands-on education for CSU veterinary students.

Clark Enersen Partners was selected as the architect for this impressive project. JE Dunn is the general contractor.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Saint Peter’s College has partnered with Ener-G Group Inc., a Manchester, U.K.-based energy efficient, sustainable and renewable solutions provider, to install a $6.3 million energy service at the school’s West Campus.

Strategic Development Group, a Fairfield N.J.-based firm that partners with Saint Peter’s College on major real estate developments, first presented the idea to the college as a holistic energy conservation project for the West Campus.

The project will be completely funded by Ener-G with no upfront cost by the college. Two grants awarded from the New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program and Federal Tax Credits help offset the costs by providing $1.86 million.

“We are delighted to partner with Saint Peter’s College and local engineering businesses and suppliers to deliver and invest in this complex energy services contract,” said Chris Hayton, business development director for Ener-G.

The project is expected to be completed in June 2012 and includes the installation of solar arrays above buildings on campus to generate electricity, including Dinneen Hall, Pope Hall, McDermott Hall, and the Yanitelli Recreational Life Center .

The Recreational Life Center will also feature sustainable additions inside the facility including energy efficient lighting in the bubble, and pool areas, among others. The school estimates they will be able to reduce carbon emissions by 6.4 million pounds per year by partnering with Ener-G.

“Each green initiative on our campus diverts resources from unsustainable projects to renewable, cost effective ones,” said Eugene Cornacchia, president of Saint Peter’s College.

The project adds to the college’s initiative of using one hundred percent renewable energy.

Hayton said he was impressed with the engineering skills available and expects the team will be able to create more jobs as the project continues to grow.
