Stanley Security Announces School Safety Grant Winners
INDIANAPOLIS — Stanley Security has named Faith Christian Academy in Sellersville, Penn. as the grand prizewinner in its school safety grant program. Through the company’s Together for Safer Schools initiative, the school will receive $200,000 in Stanley Security devices and services to help enhance student safety and create a more secure campus.
The Together for Safer Schools grant program, established by Stanley Security in 2013, offers schools the opportunity to receive free security products, which the company also installs, through a generous grant initiative. The firm awarded a total of $500,000 to four schools in different parts of the country.
Nearly 1,000 schools were nominated for the award representing all 48 states in the continental U.S. Following the nomination period schools rallied their communities to drive up daily votes. Based on these votes, several representatives of STANLEY Security traveled to grand prizewinner Faith Christian Academy on Jan. 10 to announce the top award. Runners up included South Pointe Elementary of Miami Beach, Fla., Montessori School of Dayton in Kettering, Ohio and Pioneer Elementary located in Auburn, Wash. Each of these schools will receive $100,000 to help install Stanley Security products and further ensure student safety.
According to Henry Thompson, business manager for Faith Christian Academy, the school will first undergo a full security assessment, also provided by Stanley Security, before any upgrades are made. Though recommendations have yet to be submitted, Thompson anticipates the school will receive additional security cameras, secure doors, panic buttons, an electronic access system or similar security features. Thompson added that for a small school such as Faith Christian, which serves roughly 385 students K-12, this award is a great way to supplement a safety budget.
Upon the announcement, Brett Bontrager, senior vice president and group executive, Stanley Security, for Stanley Black & Decker, said in a statement, “The Together for Safer Schools Grant Program embodies the universal concept that educational institutions should always remain protected, safe and supportive environments for the cultivation and growth of our youth.”
Kyle Dancho, chief operating officer for Stanley Security, also added that the firm has a certain duty to provide helpful technology to these and other schools. “As a leader in the industry, Stanley Security feels it is our responsibility to support all efforts to enhance security in the educational environment, encouraging a culture of safety for students and staff nationwide,” said Dancho. “We’re proud to support the security initiatives of Faith Christian Academy, South Pointe Elementary School, Montessori School of Dayton and Pioneer Elementary School through the awarding of this grant.”
