New Florida Elementary School Replaces Same-Named Facility

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—School officials and various invited guests were recently on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new Terwilliger Elementary School. According to the Gainesville Sun, the two-story educational facility replaces a previous iteration of Terwilliger that sat on a nearby site.

In addition to the education building itself, the grounds include various playground facilities, basketball court and various other recreational amenities.

Members of the general contractor Parrish McCall Construction Inc. were on hand along with Terwilliger’s principal. The district has not added a new school since 2012, the Sun reported.

The school will be able to host nearly a thousand students all told, but right now about half that number are enrolled to start classes.

According to the Sun, the new Terwilliger Elementary School was funded through a local Half-Cent for Schools tax, which so far has raised over $22 million for local educational projects. Two other school projects funded by other such tax revenue include work at Howard Bishop Middle School and Metcalfe Elementary School.

Parrish McCall Construction is also based in Gainesville.
