New Engineering Tower Reaching for the Sky Above Georgia Tech

ATLANTA—The Georgia Institute of Technology will soon be the proud owner of a state-of-the-art research and education center courtesy of a collaboration between designers EskewDumezRipple and Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio. Both firms will be working in conjunction with general contractor Turner Construction Company.

The 416,500-square-foot, two-tower high-rise will serve as the third phase of Georgia Tech’s expansion in central Atlanta’s Technology Square, where it will be sited adjacent to various tech startups and research laboratories in Georgia’s capital city anxious to hoover up the best and brightest minds from the university.

One of the two towers, the 14-story Scheller Tower, will be home to the Executive Education and MBA programs of the Scheller College of Business. Meanwhile, the 18-story George Tower will house the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The two edifices will share a common gathering space that also functions as a communal circulatory pathway.

The two buildings are meant to directly engage with Midtown Atlanta’s 5th Street corridor, via which students can reach the original, older parts of the campus—thus melding the notions of scholastic atmosphere and modern urban environment as one singular entity.

Subcontractors on the work include civil engineer Kimley-Horn, structural engineer Uzun + Case and surveyor Long Engineering. Work is anticipated to complete on the two new buildings in 2026.
